Hi,

I am considering purchase of 2m mobile for my truck. Please tell me about
your experience with ICOM, Kenwood and Yaesu 2m rigs. Also, tell me about
your choice of antennas.

Thanks

All three make fine radios. Select on the basis of the combination of
features that you believe will suit your operating preferences.

All three manufactureers make very good 2 meter mobiles. You might also
consider Alinco. I would look at the specs for each make and model and
then choose the one that fits my requirements for performance and cost.
It's all a matter of personal choice. I have 2 Icom IC-208H
dual-banders, one in the shack and one in my car. I also have a RS
HTX-212 that I've had for several years. I use it in my GMC van.

Hustler makes a very good 2 meter co-linear antenna that has a true
6.5dB gain since it is basically a verticle dipole. I have one that I
used on my old Chevy Citation I drove back and forth to work.

I now have a Diamond SG7900 dual-band 2mtr-70cm on my '94 Dodge Intrepid.

My personal preference would be Yaesu. ICOM if you can't find what you
want in the Yaesu line. Kenwood is off my list forever due to bad
experiences in the past dealing with that company.

You may also want to consider one of the 2m mobiles from Radio Shack.
I've had a couple of HTX-242 units in the past, and have one ready to go
into my Jeep as soon as I figure out how I want to mount it. They're
good basic systems with decent performance. Nothing fancy like remote
heads, but they get the job done.
